Friday 15th December, 2017

This week the children have been solving problems linked to fractions and percentages. They have had to find different ways of representing their answers using bar models. In English, they have been writing their narrative, editing it and checking the final piece against the success criteria set. Next week they will be publishing their stories.

Please continue to work on the spelling lists sent home, using the strategies given. Go over the recent list of spellings that were sent home to ensure they have been learnt correctly.

The children who took part in the Carol Service were a credit to St Peter’s. The readers were clear and read fluently, the choir members dazzled us with their beautiful voices and the musicians played their instruments brilliantly. Well done to all who took part. It was lovely to see so many children and families at church celebrating the coming of Christmas.

This week Emma Wildman (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her to work hard to improve her understanding in maths,’ and Gracie Tinsley-Jones (5E) has her writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Jasper Johnson (5T) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave him to always be prepared to work.’ Sienna Tooes (5T) has her writing on the showstoppers wall too.

Have an enjoyable weekend,

The Year 5 team

The children read well at the Advent Service and enjoyed showing some of their ‘Advent Journey’ posters. We look forward to hearing more readers at the Carol Service next week as well as listening to some wonderful singing.

This week Lillie Churcher (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her to always work hard and be a kind, caring member of the class who always has a smile on her face’ and Alicia Lea (5E) has her writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Mrs Turner will catch up with her class when she returns.

We hope to see many of you at the Carol Service next Wednesday, starting at 6p.m. The children who are taking part will need to arrive a little bit before and will need to be wearing their school uniform.
