Week 4 – 27th January 2017

This week the children have been developing their understanding adding and subtracting fraction with denominators that are multiples and developing their understanding of rounding decimals. They have been writing character studies and settings in preparation for their space adventure stories in English.

For homework the children have another 6 spellings from the Year 5/6 list, Mymaths and need to complete another section from the homework pyramid. This homework is due by next Thursday (2nd Feb). Children are more than welcome to bring their homework in early if they have completed it.

This week CAFOD visited YR5 to speak to the children about a public speaking competition. The theme of the speech is: ‘What’s for dinner?’ The children who are interested in taking part will need to research into what CAFOD does, using their website (picturemyworld.cafod.org.uk). The competition will take place on Tuesday 7th Feb afterschool and there will be trophy awarded to the individual with the best speech. It requires two speakers and a reserve to represent the school.

This week Olivia Perdu (5E) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave her to always try her hardest in every lesson’ and Alexander Jones (5E) has his writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Oscar Knight (5F) received the golden leaf award for ‘using the gifts God gave him to always put hundred percent effort into his work’. Jeffrey Mamman Mathew (5F) has his work on the showstoppers wall too.

The children are excited about their visit to the Winchester Science Museum on Friday 3rd Feb!

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 5 team
