PDL and History

Hello everyone,

We hope that you are all having a pleasant weekend.

This week, the children have been working very hard across their curriculum learning. For PDL, we have been role playing scenarios about friendship and how to solve friendship issues. We have discussed the strategies we could use when we have disagreements with our friends, considering how to resolve in a calm and patient manner. We are really looking forward to World Book Day tomorrow – which book character will you dress up as?

In History, we have started our learning on The Vikings – we took a look at a range of historical clues and made some predictions as we organised our ‘key event’ cards into chronological order, without the date stamps! After lots of discussion, we then revealed the dates to see how close our own predictions had been. Please see the photos below.

A few quick reminders for next weeek:

  • Please continue to log in to Times Table Rockstars – we encourage 10 minutes a day of practice, to help your child best prepare for the Y4 multiplication check.
  • Next week’s home learning books (red and yellow) to be completed and returned to school by Friday 10th March.
  • Parents Evenings shall take place on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th March 2023.

We hope you all have a great weekend,

Best wishes,

Year Four Team.

Welcome back!

Hi everyone,

We hope that you are all well and enjoying the week so far.

We have enjoyed celebrating the Ash Wednesday service and have been thinking about how we can pray, give and act to keep Jesus at the centre of our hearts. Please see the photos below…

In English, we have been studying Spring TIme poetry and enjoying the beauty of the nature around us. In Maths, we have been learning various methods for multiplication of two and three digit numbers. We look forward to moving on to division strategies on Monday. Next week, we shall be celebrating World Book day which shall take place on Thursday 2nd March 2023. Which of your favourite book characters will you dress up as?

We hope you all have a pleasant weekend,

Best wishes,

Year Four Team

DT sewing workshop

Good morning,

We hope that you are all well and keeping warm despite the chilly weather!

At the end of last week, Year Four were very excited to welcome parents and carers to school, to take part in our DT sewing afternoon. We would like to thank everybody who attended and supported the children. The children made a fantastic selection of purses, wallets and money carriers – we were very impressed by the creative, unique and purposeful designs and fastenings that had been generated by the children. We now look forward to sharing our sewing products and gifting them to our chosen friend or family member. Please see below for a selection of images…

We also enjoyed celebrating a Y3/4 Mass with parents and carers at St. Peter’s, led by Father Jeremy. Thank you again to everyone who attended, and a huge well done to all of the children and staff who were involved in the preparations for Mass. We would also like to thank Miss J. Heath (Oaklands chaplain) for all of her hard work and for practising prayers and readings with the Year 3 and 4 pupils.

A few brief reminders for next week:

  • Monday 30th January 2023, from 3.25-4.15pm: Y4 parent book look in the Y4 classrooms. This is an opportunity for your child to share their learning with you and to talk about what they have enjoyed so far in Year Four.
  • Red home learning books (Spelling, Vocabulary and Maths) to be completed and handed in to school by Friday 3rd February 2023.
  • Please encourage your child to continue logging on daily to Times Table Rockstars, in order to help them to prepare for the Y4 multiplication check in the Summer Term.

CST and Discipleship

Hello everyone,

We hope that you are all doing well and having a lovely week so far.

This week, the children have been very busy completing their Snowman Information leaflets – in this icy weather, the children can’t wait to share their tips and advice on How to Take Care of your Snowman.

In Maths, we have been studying how to use number bonds and we have also explored alternative strategies to successfully add together 3 sets of numbers, e.g. expanded column method. We had lots of fun calculating the cost of our cinema snack combinations!

We look forward to welcoming lots of parents to Year 4 during our sewing afternoon on Friday 20th January 2023. This will be the full afternoon session and we would like to thank parents and carers in advance, for volunteering to join us and support the children to sew and create the money carrier they have designed.

A few quick reminders for next week:

  • Please bring any examples of charity work, fundraisers, donations for Show and Tell – we would love to share and celebrate these on our Discipleship Board (see photo below), as introduced during this Monday’s Whole School Worship. This could be photos, a certificate, or a poster your child has made to raise awareness on an important issue.
  • Home learning to be handed in on Friday 27th January 2023 (yellow and red homework books).
  • Please ensure you child continues to complete 10 mins of daily reading and TT Rockstar practise at home.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Best wishes,

Year Four Team

Fun opportunities in Year Four!

Hello everyone,

We hope that you are all doing well and having a good week so far,

We have been enjoying lots of fun opportunities at St. Peter’s this week! The children really enjoyed performing their Boneyard Rap poem to the Year Two children – they had a fantastic time and used their voices, facial expressions and gestures in order to really bring the poem to life. Well done Year Four! We would also like to say a big well done to our Worship Teams, who have worked hard to plan and deliver classroom Liturgical Prayers to the rest of the class – recently, the children created a Collective Worship on the Annuniciation and they took the children to the prayer garden to share their prayers as the passed the archway and statue of Mary. Please see the photos below…

A few brief reminders for next week:

  • Friday 20th January – Y4 sewing afternoon with parents and carers. Please contact St. Peter’s if you would like to attend!
  • Home learning (spelling, vocabulary and maths) to be returned back to class by Friday 20th January 2023.

Year Four – Building a snowman!

Welcome back, everyone!

We hope that you are all well and that you all enjoyed a peaceful Christmas break and a wonderful New Year.

This week, we have continued our learning on The Snowman – the children had a fantastic time creating their own snowmen using artificial snow with coconut conditioner and bicarbonate of soda. We then gave our snowmen a name and explored a variety of science games to build our vocabulary banks for words that described ‘changes of state’ as well as for solids, liquids and gases.

In Maths, the children have been enjoying challenge activities on calculating the area and perimeter of regular and irregular shapes. We were very impressed by the various strategies selected by each child, such as ‘boxing up’ quadrilaterals within a shape to calculate area, and using times table knowledge and doubling in order to solve perimeters of regular quadrilateral shapes, efficiently.

A few brief reminders for next week:

  • Home learning (spelling, vocabulary and maths) to be returned back to class by Friday 13th January 2023.
  • Please continue to practise daily on Times Table Rockstars, in order to prepare for the Y4 multiplication check.
  • Spring Term reading passports – please make use of the school and local libraries in order to enjoy a wide selection of texts across the Spring Term.

We hope you all have a great weekend,

Best Wishes,
