Year 3 explorers

Hello,

This week the children have been having lots of practical opportunities to explore their current units of study.

In Maths, they have been learning how to find unit and non-unit fractions of amounts, using counters, coins and whiteboards to practise sharing and equal groups. Both classes have also enjoyed taking part in online fraction activities to explore the values of numerators and denominators. The children impressed us with their commitment and success when applying their learning about decimals and tenths of a number to some very tricky, open-ended shape problems. Well done Year 3!

In English, the children were introduced to the visual text, Ride of Passage, from the Literacy Shed website. Across the week, Year 3 have been applying their Rainforest learning to produce extracts of dialogue and setting description from the video, in preparation for their unit outcome (to write a story with an alternative ending). Perhaps the children may like to practise writing some alternative endings to their own favourite stories, this weekend.

We look forward to seeing you all on Monday,

Miss Honeywell and Mr Austin
