26th January, 2018

This week the children have continued to use various methods for multiplying numbers up to 4-digits by 2-digits. They have then applied these skills to real life contexts. Today we have started to look at division of 2- and 3-digit numbers by a 1-digit number. Please practise related skills from the maths homework book that we sent home earlier this week. In English, they have been writing sentences using a colon to introduce a list and planning a holiday advertisement using persuasive language.

Please continue to work on the spelling lists, using the strategies given. Also practise homophones focusing on meaning in context as well as spelling.

This week Jack Jordan (5E) received the golden leaf award for his commitment to learning in maths. Anna Heathcote (5E) has her writing displayed on the showstoppers wall. Lily Rushton (5T) received the golden leaf award for perseverance and commitment in maths and Nicolas Renji (5T) has his writing on the showstopper wall too.

This week we celebrated our first ‘Mathemagicians’ of the month; Sigciniwe Dlamini and Tia Abbinnett were our recipients for January.

Just a reminder that replies for the Science trip need to be in by the 2nd February.

Have a great weekend,

The Year 5 team
